Modules in IELTS

There are two modules in the IELTS test

  • Academic Module

This module is designed for students who want to study at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in an English-speaking country. Thes test assesses a candidate’s ability to understand and use complex academic language, and includes tasks such as reading academic texts, writing academic essays, listening to academic lectures, and participating in academic discussions.

  • General Training Module

This module is designed for individuals who want to work or migrate to an English-speaking country. The test assesses a candidate’s ability to communicate in everyday situations, and includes tasks such as reading non-academic texts, writing letters and reports, listening to everyday conversations, and participating in job interviews.

Both modules have the same listening and speaking components, but the reading and writing tasks are different. The Academic module’s reading and writing tasks are more academically oriented and require a higher level of language proficiency, while the General Training module’s reading and writing tasks are more general and focus on everyday communication.
